India's 3.6 million-ton aluminum industry is expected to double its output by 2023, while increasing its margin with the production of value-added and high-end downstream products. India's share of the global aluminum industry is about 3%.

India has the world's fifth-largest bauxite reserves, with deposits of about 3 billion tons, or 5% of global deposits. One ton of produced aluminum requires two tons of alumina; and one ton of alumina requires two to three tons of bauxite.
