About 14 billion pounds per year of polypropylene units are scheduled to be added by end of 2029, according to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Petroleum Refining Project Database, with a total investment value of more than US$5.3 billion.
Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), a leading public sector refiner, is planning a 1.5 billion-pound-per-year polypropylene expansion by 2027, in addition to its 2.4 billion pounds per year of polypropylene projects under construction and expected to come online by 2025. Other major companies with polypropylene capacity additions on the horizon include:
- Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) plans to add 2.1 billion pounds per year by 2024
- Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) plans to add 1.7 billion pounds per year by 2027
- Haldia Petrochemicals Limited (HPL) plans to add 2.2 billion pounds per year by 2027
- Mangalore Refinery & Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) plans to add 1.3 billion pounds per year by 2029
- Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL) plans to add 950 million pounds per year by 2027
- Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) plans to add 660 million pounds per year by 2026.
