Italy's Taranto Refinery Prepares for Maintenance Shutdown

The plant is located in the coastal city of Taranto in the southern region of Puglia. Built in the 1960s, the refinery, which can process a wide range of crude and other feedstocks, is currently owned and operated by Eni SpA (NYSE:E) (Rome, Italy).

The maintenance shutdown will take place in September 2009 and is expected to last approximately 45 non-production days. The turnaround will entail mainly routine inspection, cleaning and maintenance and will involve the residue hydrocracker and two claus units. A new hydrocracker was brought online this year as part of an upgrading plan that Eni is carrying out at the refinery.
