It's a Wrap! Pharma-Biotech Industry Completes 245 North American CAPEX/MRO Projects, $4 Billion in Investments in First-Quarter 2016

Reported by Annette Kreuger, Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--A spoonful of sugar and more than $4 billion in investments can help curb the worst of financial fevers. A look back at the first quarter of 2016 reveals the Life Science sector wrapped up construction on a total of 245 North American capital and MRO (maintenance) projects. A recent survey of reported projects in Industrial Info's Pharmaceutical-Biotech Online Database reveals that the projects represent a total investment value (TIV) of $4.2 billion.
Sources for the first-quarter activity include private industry, commercial developers, universities and the federal government. The projects reported include grassroot facilities, major building additions to existing sites and in-plant capital. The projects are a varied group in both size and focus.

Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) (New Brunswick, New Jersey) divisions Ethicon and Noramco completed construction of a manufacturing plant in Athens, Georgia. Team members CRB (Cary, North Carolina) and Gilbane (Atlanta, Georgia) designed and built the 140,000-square-foot facility, which will produce a variety of medical products, including sutures and aesthetics.
In Waco, Texas, Allergan (NYSE:AGN)(Dublin, Ireland/Parsippany, New Jersey) finished a $100+ million capital project that added "Sterile 7," a biologics and medical device production building. DPR Construction (Austin, Texas) was the general contractor for the project, which included a number of ancillary smaller projects throughout the 12-acre Allergan Waco campus.
UNIPHARMA LLC (Miami, Florida) completed the first phase of the so-called three-phase "Project Monodose" in Tamarac, Florida. ANF Group (Davie, Florida) renovated approximately 100,000 square feet within the former Tamarac Conference Center to provide contract production of generic liquid and oral dose pharmaceutical products. The remaining projects were scattered across North America.
