Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Louis Dreyfus Canada Limited (Calgary, Alberta), a division of Louis Dreyfus SAS (Paris, France), has completed construction at its new canola-crushing facility in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Built in partnership with Mitsui & Company Limited (TYO:8031) (Tokyo, Japan), the new facility will process 850,000 tons of canola annually, creating 350,000 tons of oil and 500,000 tons of meal each year. Louis Dreyfus has a 60% interest in the facility, while Mitsui holds the remaining 40%. The new plant will bring Louis Dreyfus' global oilseed-processing capacity to 36,000 metric tons per day.

Initially estimated to require an investment of $90 million when first announced in the fall of 2006, the new facility comes with a total price tag of $120 million. Construction began in spring 2008, and the plant was commissioned last fall. The plant is expected employ 45 people when it reaches full production.

A joint venture between Knutson Construction Services (Minneapolis, Minnesota) and Corval Group (St. Paul, Minnesota) acted as construction manager for the project. EMW Industrial (Yorkton) was retained to design and install the grain-receiving line, and Hipperson Construction Company (1996) Limited (Regina, Saskatchewan) provided steel structural erection on the extraction building and concrete tank pads at the crushing plant.

Industrial Info Resources is also tracking construction of Richardson International's (Winnipeg, Manitoba) canola-processing plant, which is also in Yorkton. The project has an estimated total investment value of $100 million and an anticipated production capacity of 840,000 tons of canola oil.
