Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Leading oriented strand board (OSB) producer, Louisiana Pacific Corporation (LP) (NYSE:LPX), is moving forward with a $15 million multi-year project at a plant in Hayward, Wisconsin. The project will transform the mill's production from an oriented strand board structural product to an oriented strand board siding product. Plans are to construct two production lines, with the first line slated to start up in Summer 2005, and the second line tentatively scheduled for start-up in 2007. Production from both lines will be approximately 225 million square feet annually each. The project's success is based on continued demand for panel and siding products, as a result of strong housing starts and remodeling markets.

In May 2004, Industrialinfo.com, released a project report detailing the company's plan to convert the mill. At the present time, Louisiana Pacific is pouring footings for three new buildings for warehousing, cold storage, and fines recovery and expects to select a vendor for the major equipment before the end of 2004.

Operations at the Hayward mill began in 1979. The mill employs 175 workers and produces 500 million square feet of oriented strand board products annually.

LP is a premier supplier of building materials, delivering innovative, high-quality commodity and specialty products to its retail, wholesale, home-building, and industrial customers. LP is the largest producer of OSB products in the world with around 6 billion feet annually. In 2003, the company completed a major divestiture and asset sales program that generated a total value of more than $750 million. LP reported net sales for 2003 of $2.3 billion, compared to $1.6 billion for 2002.
