Medicine Hat Electric Utility Begins Construction of $50 Million Expansion in Alberta

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Medicine Hat Electric Utility (Medicine Hat, Alberta) has started construction for the estimated $50 million expansion project at the Medicine Hat Power Station.

Construction for the first turbine to be installed began earlier this month and the second turbine will be installed in December. Both turbines are scheduled to be ready for commercial start-up by early 2007. The project consists of adding two natural gas-fired, 25-megawatt GE Power Systems LM2500 combustion turbine generators to the existing site and will operate in a combined-cycle configuration in conjunction with a steam turbine already at the plant. Once complete, the new units will generate an additional 50 megawatts for Medicine Hat Electric Utility customers.

GE Canada, based in Mississauga, Ontario, will provide the turnkey E+P+C (engineering, procurement and construction) services for the expansion project.
