During the first half of 2020, 42,306 million ton-kilometers of railway cargo were moved in Mexico, a 2.21% drop from the same period in 2021, according to Mexico's Ministry of Communications and Transportation (SCT).
However, in June this year, 6,838 million ton-kilometers of rail cargo were moved, a 3.62% increase over May's numbers, making June the first month of 2020 that had a month-on-month increase, according to the ministry.
Regarding international cargo, 23,771 million ton-kilometers of imported products and 5,033 million of exports were transported by train in the first half of 2020, for a total of 28,804 million ton-kilometers: this marked a decrease of 0.8% from the traffic numbers in the first half of 2019.
