A privately held start-up company, Mississippi Beef Processors (Franklin, Tennessee), is planning to construct a new $32 million beef slaughtering and processing plant in Oakland, Mississippi. The plant will be located in Yalobusha County, roughly 75 miles south of Memphis, Tennessee in the small town of Oakland (population 559). Groundbreaking for the plant is scheduled for July of 2002.
Carouthers Construction (Water Valley, Mississippi) has been selected as the General Contractor on this project that is expected to take about 12 months to complete. Once construction of the 152,000 square foot plant is completed, about 350 jobs will be created. This state-of-the-art beef slaughtering and processing plant will process 1,000 head per day of cattle into beef and value added products.
