Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Earlier this week, Pattern Energy (San Francisco, California) commenced commercial operations of its 151.8-megawatt (MW) windfarm near Ely, Nevada, in the eastern part of the state. The facility consists of 66 Siemens SWT-101 Model Wind Turbines. Construction of the facility began in the spring of last year. This is the first commercial-scale windfarm to operate in Nevada.
Industrial Info is tracking more than 990 MW of additional wind projects planned for Nevada, although the earliest of these isn't planned to commence construction until late next year. One of the largest of these, which remains in the early planning and permitting stages is the China Mountain Windfarm, near the town of Jackpot, Nevada. The windfarm will have an estimated generating capacity of approximately 400 MW.
The project is currently active, but delayed due to environmental issues involving the sage grouse. If it moves ahead, the facility will probably not commence construction until mid-2016 for completion in 2017.
