Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro (NLH) (Saint John's, Newfoundland Canada), a crown corporation (Provincial Owned) utility has selected Foxboro Process Systems (Foxboro, Massachusetts), a unit of Invensys Process Systems, a unit of Invensys Plc (OTC: IVNSY) (London, England), to replace the boiler controls for the three unit Holyrood Thermal Generating Station in Holyrood, Newfoundland for improved performance and reliability.

NLH selected the Foxboro System to upgrade the existing Westinghouse WDPF Distributive Control System (DCS) on three 1970's vintage oil-fired boilers, two tangential-fired Alstom (Combustion Engineering) boilers, and one Babcock & Wilcox front-fired boiler. Foxboro was selected, due to the low-risk and cost effectiveness of Foxboro's "plug in" for migrating of the controls to a more current system. Foxboro utilizes special modules for Input/Output (I/O) that plug into the existing systems' I/O racks, thus allowing the system change without moving or installing a lot of additional wiring. NLH plans to perform the installation itself, starting in the Spring of 2005. The project is scheduled to be completed by Fall 2005 and implemented during annual outages.
