Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Less than a year from opening its first U.S. plant, FAGE USA Dairy Incorporated (Johnstown, New York), a unit of FAGE Dairy Industry S.A. (Athens, Greece), is already planning to expand its Johnstown yogurt production facility. FAGE has not specified the capacity of the expansion plans but has indicated that construction could begin in early summer 2009 and be complete by the end of the year. The existing plant came with an $85 million price tag and has the capacity to receive 65,000 tons per year of milk and produce 15,000 tons per year of Greek-style yogurt from a 120,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility.
The U.S. market for yogurt is estimated to be valued at over $3.5 billion. FAGE TOTAL yogurt is all-natural, free of any additives, sweeteners or preservatives.
Industrial Info first reported on FAGE's initial plans for the Johnstown site as early as March 2005. Construction started in fall 2006 and the plant became fully operational April 2008.
