Nitta Gelatin has Chosen North Carolina Site for its New Gelatin Plant

The new plant will cost an estimated $26 million to construct and will be located in the Cumberland Industrial Center - Includes a chart analyzing the number of grassroot plants planned to begin construction during 2005 in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Nitta Gelatin Incorporated (Rochelle Park, New Jersey) has finalized plans to construct a gelatin plant in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The new plant will cost an estimated $26 million to construct and will be located in the Cumberland Industrial Center on Production Drive. An annual production of 3,000 tons per year of pharmaceutical and food grade gelatin will be produced at this new plant.

Barnhill Contracting Company (Wilmington, North Carolina) is performing the engineering and construction services for the new plant. Approvals are in place and construction is set to begin in April 2005, with completion and initial operations planned for Summer 2006. Nitta was originally looking to build this new plant in Longview, Washington, as initially reported by Industrialinfo.com in 1999. One of the primary reasons for locating the new plant in North Carolina is the regional access to a large number of pork processors enabling the company to procure all the raw materials needed to produce pork skin gelatin.

This new Nitta Gelatin plant is one of seventeen grassroot plants, representing more than $2.8 billion in total investment value, scheduled to begin construction in North Carolina in 2005. North Carolina leads the Mid-Atlantic Market Region, which includes the states of Maryland, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia, in planned grassroot plant construction starts. Industrial companies are evaluating 58 projects in the region, representing more than $10 billion in grassroot industrial plant construction that could begin in 2005. The majority of these projects are in the Power, Pharmaceutical-Biotech, and Industrial Manufacturing Industries.

Nitta Gelatin, Incorporated is headquartered in Osaka, Japan and has been producing gelatin for over 75 years. As of January 1, 2005, Cangel Incorporated (Toronto, Ontario), a subsidiary of Nitta, will change its name to Nitta Gelatin Canada Incorporated and will be the only company in Canada that produces natural, unflavored pork skin gelatin.
