New York Denies Permits for Natural Gas-Fired Power Projects - New York environmental regulators on Wednesday rejected permits to build two natural gas-fired power plants as the state focuses more on renewable projects and energy efficiency to meet its greenhouse gas reduction goals. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation denied air emissions permits for NRG Energy Incorporated's (NYSE:NRG) (Houston, Texas) proposed Astoria gas turbine project in the New York City borough of Queens, and Danskammer Energy LLC's (Newburgh, New York) proposed Danskammer repowering project in Newburgh on the Hudson River. Hess Reports Quarterly Profit - Oil producer Hess Corporation (NYSE:HES) (New York, New York) on Wednesday reported a quarterly profit, compared with a year-ago loss, as prices for crude oil and natural gas surge. The company reported an adjusted profit of $86 million in third-quarter 2021, compared with a loss of $216 million a year earlier. (Reuters)

U.S. Crude Oil Stocks Up, Cushing Supplies Dwindle - U.S. crude oil stocks rose last week, the government reported on Wednesday, but inventories at the Cushing, Oklahoma, storage hub dropped sharply. Crude oil inventories in the week ending October 22 rose by 4.3 million barrels to 430.8 million barrels, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) said. However, stocks at the Cushing, Oklahoma, delivery hub fell by 3.9 million barrels in the week to 27.3 million barrels, the lowest since October 2018. (Reuters)
