In an effort to halt an oil spill in Pertamina's ONWJ block that started in July, Indonesia's state-run oil company, Pertamina, will drill a relief well (YYA-1 RW) to contain the spill. Pertamina plans to eventually close the leaked YYA-1 well.
Renting a new rig to drill the 2,765-meter-deep relief well is expected to prove costly. Pertamina also expects to inject fluid (heavy mud) in YYA-1.
