Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 60-megawatt (MW) Webbers Falls Hydroelectric Power Station, owned and operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District (Tulsa, Oklahoma), will get a $70 million facelift. Work has already begun for the overhaul/refurbishment of the dam and units to add 40 to 50 years to the life of the plant, which is located about 3 miles north of Webbers Falls, Muskogee County, in Oklahoma.
The Army Corps of Engineers has selected vendors to supply equipment and services and is acting as the construction manager. Construction began last fall, and if work goes as scheduled, the project will be complete in 2011. The plant will have Kaplan slant axis turbine/generators that will produce up to 20 MW each. The plant is one of very few to use this design of hydroelectric turbine/generators. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District, is a part of the Army Corps of Engineers - Southwestern Division (Dallas, Texas).
