Oleander Power Project LP Completes Construction of 170-Megawatt Expansion

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Oleander Power Project LP (Cocoa, Florida), a subsidiary of The Southern Company (NYSE:SO) (Atlanta, Georgia), has put an estimated $235 million, 170-megawatt (MW) expansion project into full commercial operation after completing construction at the Oleander Merchant Peaking Station in Cocoa.

Construction started in December 2006 and was completed this summer. The project went into operation this month. The project consisted of adding a 170-MW dual-fueled GE Energy MS7001FA combustion turbine generator to the facility. Oleander has a nameplate capacity of 680 MW, all of which is being sold to Seminole Electric Cooperative (Tampa, Florida). The new unit will operate in a simple-cycle peaking capacity generating power when energy demands are at their highest, which normally occurs during the summer and winter months.

PCI Management & Consulting Company of Schaumburg, Illinois, provided the turnkey engineering, procurement and construction services for the project.
