Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Oman's oil production increased to 951,000 barrels per day (BBL/d) in 2019-20, while oil consumption stood at 295,000 BBL/d. The gap presents Oman with a significant opportunity to enhance its export market, as well as reduce its dependency on imports, by building out its Petroleum Refining Industry.

Oman has just two operational refineries, the 198,000-BBL/d Sohar and 106,000-BBL/d Mina Al Fahal. But two new grassroot refineries, the 230,000-BBL/d Duqm and 30,000-BBL/d Sohar Bitumen, are under construction and are set to be commissioned by 2022 and 2023, respectively. In addition, Canada Business Holdings Incorporated's (Ottawa, Canada) 300,000-BBL/d Duqm Refinery and Salalah Free Zone Company's (Salalah, Oman) 150,000-BBL/d Salalah Refinery are in their planning stages.
