Opening of New Kentucky Land O’ Frost Meat Packing Plant Delayed

Family-owned lunch meat manufacturer, Land O’ Frost, Incorporated (Lansing, Illinois), is moving closer to a first quarter 2007 start-up of a $45 million grassroot meat packing plant in Madisonville, Kentucky. The company selected a 28-acre site for the construction of the 175,000 square-foot meat packing plant in Madisonville, Kentucky, as the location for its third manufacturing plant.

The grassroot project broke ground in December of 2005. The general contractor, Haskell Company (Jacksonville, Florida), is wrapping up the completion and is making minor modifications. The project has experienced delays due to construction issues, which are now being repaired. An exact construction completion date has not been determined, but is expected by January 2007.

Haskell Company will have the final modifications and all of the equipment moved in by the end of January. Land O’ Frost will then begin hiring employees in February of 2007, and there will be a potential for 500 job openings.

Land O' Frost brand is the sixth largest producer of retail lunch meats in the country. The family-owned company manufactures lunch and deli meats under the Dagwood's, Land O' Frost, Taste Escapes, and private label brand names. The company operates two other manufacturing plants in Lansing, Illinois and Searcy, Arkansas.
