Over $22 Billion in Future Spending Currently Slated for Illinois

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). The state of Illinois’ star is shining brightly, considering future industrial spending in the state. Currently, the state can attest to having over $22 billion in active capital and maintenance spending projects on the books over the next four years.

The spending powerhouse in the state is once again the Power Industry. With planned spending topping $19 billion for the next four years, the Power Industry is, by far, the leading spending force in the state. While other industries, such as the pharmaceuticals and biotech industry, the chemicals industry, the metals and minerals industry, the oil and gas industry, and the transportation industry can all boast impressive spending numbers for the same period of time, none of them comes close to the power industry in sheer dollars anticipated to be spent.

As we take a glimpse into the spending future for the state, each of the next four years looks to be strong in terms of spending. Even though 2005 is a quarter complete, there still remains over $5.5 billion in planned spending yet to come. Likewise, 2006, at $6.4 billion, 2007, at $1.7 billion, and 2008, at just over $8 billion, all look to be promising, and the spending will continue to bolster the state’s economy through construction jobs, new plants, and more permanent jobs.

While not all of the above-mentioned projects will come to fruition, the recent years’ spending trends for Illinois indicate that a significant portion of them will, and the spending dollars should only continue to rise.

When it is all said and done, Illinois will stand out as one of the nation’s largest states in terms of project spending over the next few years. The state is growing, and companies are recognizing that fact, spurring them on in the never-ending quest for the best locations to locate their manufacturing plants and support facilities.
