Pennington Seed Building New Manufacturing Plant in Ligonier, Indiana

One of the largest lawn, garden and turf care products manufacturer, Pennington Seed, Incorporated (Madison, Georgia), a division of Central Garden and Pet Company (NASDAQ:CENT) (Walnut Creek, California), has recently begun construction on a new manufacturing plant that will be located in Ligonier, Indiana. The company purchased ten acres of property in the Ligonier Industrial Park and plans to construct three buildings totaling 29,600 square feet for the production of wood pellets that are used as an alternative fuel source for wood burning stoves. The total investment for the project is valued at $14 million.

Plans are to construct a 12,000 square-foot main production building and two 8,800 square-foot support buildings. The company selected Leatherman Construction (Albion, Indiana) as the general contractor and site work is currently underway at the location.

Equipment will be installed to mill, process, press and pelletize wood and additives into fuel pellets. Construction on the first building is expected to be complete by January 2007, and at that point, equipment installations will begin.

The two additional structures are scheduled to be up and running by March of 2007.
