Pennsylvania Dairy Invests More Than $100 Million in Expansion and Power Generation

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Schreiber Foods (Green Bay, Wisconsin), an employee-owned dairy company, has embarked on one of the largest capital investments in the company's history, with a $110 million to $120 million investment at a cheese processing facility in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. Schreiber is moving forward with plans that will result in additional processing capacity, a wastewater treatment facility and a biogas plant.

Schreiber Foods plans to increase production space by 190,000 square feet from 140,000 square feet. The company will also more than double the capacity of its 40,000-gallon wastewater pre-treatment facility and install an energy-recovery system that will utilize waste streams from the production process to generate 1.1 megawatts of electricity. The company is also constructing an overhead conveyor system that will link the plant to a nearby distribution center.

Dennis Group (Springfield, Massachusetts) is the lead engineer on the project and Stellar (Jacksonville, Florida) is the general contractor of record.

Construction is under way, and the company expects to complete its expansion plans by the end of the year.
