Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). The Northeast Region is currently forecast to complete construction of 95 new plants throughout 2007. This represents an impressive 55% increase over the region's figures for 2006. Last year, 61 new facilities were finished in the Northeast, which includes the states of Delaware, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. For 2007, as was the case for 2006, Pennsylvania claimed the majority of new builds, with 40 plants (44%) scheduled to be complete between January and December. New York is not far behind with a respectable 37 sites. The remainder is found in New Jersey, with 18 new facilities. At this point in the year, there are currently no plants scheduled to complete construction in Delaware in 2007.
A look at which industries are sourcing these plants with data drawn from Industrial Info reveals that the Industrial Manufacturing sector is responsible for the majority of the 2007 new builds, with 29 new sites expected to be finished before year's end. These plants include Agusta USA's $27 million helicopter facility in Pennsylvania, that opened in January 2007. Another is the Armor Dynamics' $20 million plastic armor plant being built in New York.
The Food and Beverage Industry is currently second in terms of new builds in the region, with a total of 20 plants scheduled for completion this year. Archer Daniel's is building a $40 million cocoa processing plant in Pennsylvania that is forecast for completion in September. CWE Incorporated is constructing a poultry processing plant in New Jersey, with total investment value (TIV) of $11.4 million.
The remainder of the plants scheduled to finish this year come from a wide variety of industries, including Power with 17, Pharma-Biotech with 10 (Pharmaceutical Tracker - Online Database) and Alternative Fuels with 8 sites. The Oil & Gas Transmission, Chemical Processing and Metals & Minerals industries also have plants due for 2007 completion in the Northeast.
When considering the capital investment sourced from all of the new plants, including the initial construction cost and reported future expansions, the region is expecting to benefit from a total TIV of $4.36 billion. This represents a site average TIV of $45 million. The year's numbers represent a significant increase of 65% over 2006, when the TIV was $1.7, with a site average TIV of $27.8 million. As detailed in Industrial Infos Northeast Region Online Plant Directory, all new plants will join the over 3,000 operational plants located in the region. The region represents a wide variety of industrial plants, with the Food & Beverage and Industrial Manufacturing plants responsible for over 1,200 locations. Others with a presence in the region include approximately 500 chemical plants, 40 major petroleum refineries, 130 bulk storage terminals, and 300 power-generating stations.
