PG&E Begins Construction of 163-Megawatt Repowering Project at Humboldt Bay Power Station

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Pacific Gas & Electric Company, a subsidiary of PG&E Corporation (NYSE:PCG) (San Francisco, California), has started construction of a $100 million, 163-megawatt (MW) repowering project at the Humboldt Bay Power Station in Eureka, California.

The project is scheduled to be ready for commercial start-up by summer 2009. The project consists of installing 10 16.3-MW dual-fueled Wartsila 18V50DF reciprocating engines. Once operational, the new engines will replace two older model Siemens Westinghouse steam turbines totaling more than 100 MW.

Haskell Corporation (Bellingham, Washington) will provide the turnkey engineering, procurement and construction services throughout the duration of the project.
