Phoenix Lands Coveted $45 Million TGEN Research Facility

The Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) (Phoenix, Arizona) will soon break ground for their $45 million 170,000 square foot research and development facility. TGen is an independent research institute that formed in July 2002 with the intent of "translating" genomic discoveries into diagnostics, treatments, and cures.

"Cities across the nation lobbied hard to land TGen and their facility", according to Annette Kreuger, Pharmaceutical and Biotech Group Manager with Industrialinfo.com. "Phoenix gladly anted up $31 million of the total construction cost, figuring it a small price to pay when measured against the prestige and research dollars TGen is expected to attract. Phoenix considers this their first major step in becoming a serious biotech hub."

The six-story building will include research and development labs, wet labs, administrative offices and lab space for start-up companies. TGen will occupy three of the floors, with the remainder leased to various bioscience research and commercial entities.

The Smith Group (Phoenix, Arizona) and DPR Construction Incorporated (Redwood City, California) are working together as the design-build team for this new facility. The Smith Group is providing A&E services, while DPR Construction is serving as the general contractor for construction of the building.
