Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--This may come as a surprise given the current economic situation, but planned industrial project spending in Harris County, Texas, is up for 2009. In fact, with 125 projects planned to begin construction in 2009 representing $4.4 billion in total investment value (TIV), planned industrial project spending in the county is three times larger than it was in 2007. At that time, Industrial Info was monitoring 93 projects with a TIV of $1.6 billion planned to begin construction in 2007. Always a strong area for petrochemical plant spending because of its large population of refineries and chemical plants on the Houston Ship Channel, Harris County also has a good number of projects planned in the Power and Industrial Manufacturing industries, as well.Click on the image at right to view a breakdown of the project spending by project status.
As can be seen from the chart, the majority of the projects are in the early and advanced stages of planning. About 34% of the projects are in the post-approval stage, including advanced engineering, construction or maintenance shutdowns.
Structural erection has begun on an expansion of a 286,000-square-foot refrigerated food storage warehouse owned by Glazier Foods Company (Houston, Texas) on Antoine Drive in Houston, Texas. W.M. Dillard & Associates L.P. (Houston) is providing design-build services for a 160,000-square-foot building addition at the 33-acre site.
Industrial insulation manufacturer ITW Insulation Systems, a division of Illinois Tool Works Incorporated (NYSE:ITW) (Glenview, Illinois), is studying sites in the Houston area to construct a $30 million perlite-based insulation-manufacturing plant. Construction could begin this summer. One of the insulation products ITW Insulation manufactures is Temperlite, a rigid piping and block thermal insulation formed from perlite, which is both water and fire resistant up to 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit.
