In fact, with 125 projects planned to begin construction in 2009 representing $4.4 billion in total investment value (TIV), planned industrial project spending in the county is three times larger than it was in 2007. Always a strong area for petrochemical plant spending because of its large population of refineries and chemical plants on the Houston Ship Channel, Harris County also has a good number of projects planned in the Power and Industrial Manufacturing industries, as well.

Dillard & Associates L.P. (Houston) is providing design-build services for a 160,000-square-foot building addition at the 33-acre site.

Industrial insulation manufacturer ITW Insulation Systems, a division of Illinois Tool Works Incorporated (NYSE:ITW) (Glenview, Illinois), is studying sites in the Houston area to construct a $30 million perlite-based insulation-manufacturing plant. Construction could begin this summer. One of the insulation products ITW Insulation manufactures is Temperlite, a rigid piping and block thermal insulation formed from perlite, which is both water and fire resistant up to 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit.
