Plastics Industry Plans $544 Million in New Construction

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Expansions in the plastics industry seem to be growing in number as more construction is being planned. Industrial Info is tracking 43 plastics projects totaling $516 million that are under construction or in the advanced engineering stages.

In the Great Lakes region, Industrial Info is tracking 20 projects totaling $255 million. In the Southeast region, six projects totaling $173 million are under construction or getting ready to begin construction.

Industrial Info is tracking the $110 million polyethylene film manufacturing facility planned by Polyplex Americas Incorporated in Decatur, Alabama. Construction started in the fall of last year, with overall completion slated for the end of this year. Polyplex acquired the plant from Steel Technologies. The new plant is expected to manufacture 66,000 tons per year of resins to support the manufacturing of 33,000 tons per year of PET films. Graycor Incorporated (Charlotte, North Carolina) was selected to provide general construction services for the new plant.

Industrial Info is also tracking construction of a $90 million polyethylene (PET) film manufacturing plant planned by Uflex Limited (BSE:500148) (New Delhi) in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Construction for the new plant began in January of this year, and overall completion is expected by the end of the year. MSE of Kentucky Incorporated (Lexington, Kentucky) and Gray Construction Company (Lexington) were selected to provide construction management and general contracting services for the new plant.
