Released Wednesday, April 27, 2005

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated Houston, Texas). Privately held supermarket operator Price Chopper Incorporated (Schenectady, New York), a part of The Golub Corporation, are down to the final four in the general contractor selection process for the construction of a new $15 million frozen foods distribution center in Rotterdam, New York.

Plans for the new state-of-the-art distribution center call for the creation of a 152,000 square foot facility with freezers, storage racking, office areas, and multiple truck docks that will service frozen foods storage and distribution for the chain's entire supermarket locations and replace smaller satellite operations from which the company is currently operating.

Strategies are also in the works to add twelve new stores in the region within the next three years. The company will require additional distribution and storage capacity to support the new growth. The new site has room for a 50,000 square foot addition, as growth and expansion for the future are required.

The company has narrowed its search for a general contractor to four firms, and the bids are scheduled to be due back by April 29, 2005. Once a contractor is selected, construction could begin as early as mid-May 2005. Building is on a fast track construction schedule, with a tentative completion date set for October 31, 2005.

Supermarket operator The Golub Corporation offers tasty come-ons, such as table-ready meals, gift certificates, automatic discount cards, and a hotline where cooks answer food-related queries. Golub operates 100-plus Price Chopper supermarkets in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, upstate New York, northeastern Pennsylvania, and Vermont. It also runs Mini Chopper service stations and convenience stores. The Golub family owns 45% of the firm, and employees own the remaining 55% of the company.
