Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Biomass energy project developer Real Ventures Limited (Immingham, England) says that plans to construct two new biomass power plants in Hull and Immingham, in England, are expected to be completed by mid- to late 2015.
The plants are near-duplicates of each other in design, as each will chew up 225,000 tons per year of imported biomass fuel pellets. Each will have a generating capacity of approximately 50 megawatts (MW) and a heating capacity of 130 MW. They are to be located at the port of Immingham in northeast England and the Hull area in East Yorkshire.
The company expects to invest about 298 million ($423 million) in the wood-to-power projects, and expects final financial closing and planning permissions to be granted early next year. Construction is scheduled to begin by mid-2013, with both plants due to be commissioned in mid-2015 or early 2016.
"We are now working in more detail on the fuel supply and construction aspects of the two projects, and envisage reaching financial closure with banks and equity partners early next year," said Ray Tucker, the chief executive of Real Ventures.
Biomass combined heat and power plants are a growing trend throughout the United Kingdom, with biomass projects ranging in size from 299-MW plants to 1-MW facilities. In all, some $17 billion of biomass projects are expected over the next three years.
