Restart of Eni's Taranto Refinery Under Way

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Eni SpA's (NYSE:E) (Rome, Italy) 110,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) refinery in the city of Taranto in the southern region of Puglia, is currently in the process of restarting its processing units after a partial planned shutdown that started August 20.

In addition to routine cleaning and inspection of the units, work was performed in Claus 2 and Claus 4, where furnace refractories were changed. Also, catalyst replacement and the installation of new compressors occurred in the 4100 Residual Hydrocracker unit. The Claus 3, Claus 4 and Scot units are currently online; however, Claus 2 and the 4100 Residual Hydrocracker are expected to be back online by the middle of this month. Apart from the Taranto Refinery, Eni owns and operates five other refineries in Italy: the 80,000-BBL/d Venezia refinery in Porto Marghera, the 100,000-BBL/d Gela refinery in Sicily, the 170,000-BBL/d Sannazzaro refinery in the Po Valley, the 84,000-BBL/d Livorno refinery in Tuscany, and the Milazzo refinery in Sicily, which is part of a joint venture with Kuwait National Petroleum Company.
