Riverton Generating Station Scheduled for 155-Megawatt Peaking Unit Addition

The Empire District Electric Company (NYSE:EDE) (Joplin Missouri) has selected the employee-owned Sega, Incorporated (Stillwell, Kansas) to provide the balance of plant engineering, procurement, and construction services to install Unit 12, a 155-megawatt (MW) natural gas-fired combustion turbine/generator (Siemens Westinghouse V84-3A2) that Empire has already purchased.

The new gas-fired peaking unit will be installed at Empire’s Riverton Generating Station located in Riverton, Kansas. The unit will have dry low-NOx combustors as well as a continuous emissions monitoring system (CEMS) to ensure meeting of the standard air emission requirements. The unit will be allowed to operate up to 4,000 hours per year

The pouring of the unit’s foundation is scheduled to begin in December 2005. Sega will have about fourteen months to complete the construction and the commissioning, while Empire works on the transmission and distribution system.
