POWER
EIA: U.S. Power Use to Beat Record Highs in 2026, 2027 - U.S. power consumption, which hit its second straight record high in 2025, will rise further in 2026 and 2027, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) said in its Short-Term Energy Outlook on Tuesday. The EIA projected power demand will rise from a record 4,195 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) in 2025 to 4,260 billion kWh in 2026 and 4,388 billion kWh in 2027. Demand is surging due in large part to data centers dedicated to artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency, and as homes and businesses use more electricity and less fossil fuel for heat and transportation. LNG
LNG Canada Ramps Up Shipments - LNG Canada, a Shell-led venture based in British Columbia, has ramped up production and exports to Asia this month, LSEG data show, as the Iran war threatens Asian natural gas supplies, which are particularly vulnerable to global disruptions. The LNG facility exported five cargoes in the first 11 days of March, already exceeding half its total February volume, the data shows. A sixth shipment was expected to depart yesterday. (Reuters)
Spain's Natural Gas Imports Rise Almost 20% from Last Year - In February, Spain imported the equivalent of 31,422 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of natural gas, sharply up from the 26,318 GWh it imported a year earlier, according to data from Spanish gas grid operator Enagas. Spain imported 10,612 GWh of gas from the United States, while Algeria, traditionally Spain's largest gas supplier, which mostly pumps gas directly to Spain through pipelines, was the second biggest supplier with 9,151 GWh of gas. The U.S. accounted for just shy of 34% of the country's February natural gas imports. (Reuters)
