Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--SeAH Special Steel Company Limited, a subsidiary of SeAH Holdings Corporation (SEO:058650) (Seoul, South Korea) and the largest producer of wire in South Korea, has begun construction on a new steel mill in the city of Chungju, which is about 100 kilometers southeast of Seoul, in North Chungcheong province.
Currently, SeAH Special Steel owns and operates two other mills, one in Pohang and one in Ansan. The Pohang mill specializes in the production of cold-drawn steel bars, cold-heading quality wire, and special treatment steel bars, while the Ansan facility specializes only in cold-heading quality wire. SeAh Special Steel, once confident on home ground, is looking for further expansion into the international market.
SeAh Special Steel, along with Samsung Engineering Company Limited (KRX:028050) (Seoul), began construction efforts this month on a 15,000-square-meter plot of land. The companies hope to conclude construction as early as January 2011. When completed, the Chungju facility is anticipated to produce 110,000 tons of cold-drawn steel bars annually. Products produced at the Chungju mill will be used in machinery or as raw materials for high-tension bolts and nuts for bridges or other types of civil construction. EBNER Industries (Ruflinger Strasse, Austria), one of the leading manufacturers of heat-treatment machinery and facilities, will be providing SeAH with furnaces for the new mill. HICON/H2 bell annealers and HICON roller-hearth furnaces are part of the recently announced contract signed with SeAH.
