In May of 2003, the University of Connecticut (Storrs, Connecticut) selected Select Energy Incorporated (Natick, Massachusetts) to be the design, built, and operate contractor for their proposed 24 MW university cogeneration plant (PEC 36000368, Plant 1060990).
Select Energy is currently conducting the preliminary design and permitting for the proposed $75 million cogeneration plant. Select Energy will operate the new plant and sell power to the university for a period of years (usually 20-30 years) after which, they will sell the plant back to the university.
Current plans call for actual construction on the cogeneration plant to begin in early 2004 with the new plant coming online in late 2005.
