Sempra Acquires Minnesota Wind Power Project

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Sempra U.S. Gas & Power, a subsidiary of Sempra Energy (NYSE:SRE) (San Diego, California), announced it has acquired the Black Oak Getty wind power project in Minnesota from Geronimo Energy LLC (Edina, Minnesota), a utility-scale wind and solar energy developer.

When the 78-megawatt (MW) Black Oak Getty project is completed, Sempra U.S. Gas & Power, along with its affiliates and joint venture partners, will have wind facilities in seven states with a total generating capacity of more than 1,200 MW.

Located in Stearns County, Minnesota, the Black Oak Getty project will generate renewable power for about 30,000 Minnesota homes. The entire power output from the windfarm has been sold to Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (MMPA) under a 20-year contract. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The project is expected to begin full construction in spring of 2016 and employ about 250 workers at peak construction. It will begin commercial operations by late 2016.
