Shell Deutschland Oil on Schedule for Turnaround at Rheinland Wesseling Refinery in Germany

Royal Dutch Shell plc (NYSE:RDS.A) (The Hague, Netherlands) is preparing for a refinery-wide turnaround, scheduled to begin on March 11 at its Rheinland Wesseling refinery in Germany.

Released Tuesday, March 01, 2011

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Shell Deutschland Oil GmbH, a subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell plc (NYSE:RDS.A) (The Hague, Netherlands), is preparing for a refinery-wide turnaround, scheduled to begin on March 11 at its Rheinland Wesseling refinery in Germany. The turnaround, which will involve inspection and minor repairs, will last between 21 and 28 days, and Shell expects to have the refinery operational again by the end of March or the beginning of April. Rheinland Wesseling's associated petrochemical plant is expected to remain operational throughout the turnaround.

Units to be involved in the turnaround include the 32,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) fluid catalytic cracker unit (FCCU), the 43,000-BBL/d hydrocracker, the lone crude unit, a thermal cracker, several hydrotreaters and other units. Rheinland Wesseling has a throughput capacity of 160,000 BBL/d and is connected to the Godorf refinery, thus creating Germany's largest refinery for a total of 340,000 BBL/d.

Shell is also preparing to begin Phase II of the inter-refinery pipeline project that will finalize the integration between the Godorf and Wesseling refineries. Technip Germany GmbH (Dusseldorf, Germany) will be involved in construction, which is scheduled to commence during the third quarter of this year. Shell expects the $200 million Phase II construction to be completed in mid-2013.
