Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Scoular Company (Omaha, Nebraska), a privately held agriculture marketing company, announced this week that it has acquired the shuttered Gateway Ethanol LLC (Pratt, Kansas) plant in Pratt. Terms of the acquisition were not announced.
Construction began on the $60 million fuel ethanol investment in June 2006. The facility was completed and became operational a little more than a year later, churning 15 million bushels of corn into 55 million gallons of fuel ethanol annually. It also produced dried distillers grain. Gateway Ethanol shuttered the plant in February 2008 due to the economy and high corn prices.
The Scoular Company will renovate and retrofit the facility, in hopes of it being operational late this year. In April, the plant should be ready to receive grain for processing. When fully operational, the plant could have up to 40 employees.
The 66-acre campus is on 30th Street in Pratt, approximately 78 miles west of Wichita, Kansas.
The state of Iowa currently has 36 operational fuel ethanol plants, while three more are in the planning stages.
