SMUD to Sell Solano Wind Farm Phase I and II

Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD)(Sacramento, CA) SMUD released a Request for Qualification (RFQ) and Request for Information (RFI) stating that in November 2006, it plans to place its Solano Phase I and II wind turbines, and facilities up for sale.

SMUD has stated that the RFO (Request for Offer) will also include a long term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), for energy and renewable energy credits, and a ground/wind lease agreement to run the term of the PPA. SMUD officials have stated today that the reasoning behind the RFO is that more cost effective to sell the facility, and share the associated credits through a PPA, than it is to operate the facility themselves.

The Solano Wind Farm is located in Birds Landing, California. Phase I began commercial operation in March 2003, with (23) .69 MW units from Vesta Wind Turbine (OTC:VWS) (Copenhagen, Denmark). The windfarm generated a total of 16 MW at that time. Phase II brought eight more 3 MW Vistas Wind Turbines online in June 2006, adding 24 MW of capacity to the facility.

SMUD had plans to start construction of the 63 MW Phase IIB Solano Wind Farm in March 2007.

The SMUD fleet generates 2,700 MW of power to California customers each year.
