Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Perth, Australia)--Snowy Hydro Limited (Sydney, Australia) is proposing to build a 320-megawatt (MW) natural gas-fired power station in Bannaby, Australia. The peaking power plant will be built to support New South Wales' (NSW) growing energy requirements during periods of high electricity demand.
The proposed Bannaby project will be built in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales, which is approximately 150 kilometres southwest of Sydney and 5 kilometres east of the proposed site in Australia.
As part of the Bannaby project, Snowy Hydro also will build a 23- to 30-kilometer pipeline that will supply natural gas to the power station. Snowy Hydro, with environmental consultant, GHD Australia Pty Limited (Sydney, Australia), is assessing different routes to identity the best possible way to connect the gas pipeline from the existing Moomba to Sydney Pipeline, which is 23 kilometers south of the site.
GHD Australia is one of the world's leading engineering, architecture and environmental consulting companies, which is performing environmental assessment for the project. After completing the environmental studies, Snowy Hydro will submit the environmental impact statement to NSW Department of Planning & Infrastructure for approval.
In addition to the natural gas pipeline and power plant, Snowy Hydro will build a transmission line. The project will involve constructing a short transmission line to establish a direct connection between existing high-transmission lines at the Bannaby Substation to the Bannaby power station.
Snowy Hydro will complete the design and engineering studies and will seek the contractors for the project. The power plant will be very similar to the Snowy Hydro's existing power plant, the Laverton North natural gas power station, and will consist of two 160-MW combustion turbines to produce 320 MW for the grid. Laverton is currently running on two 160-MW Siemens gas turbines and is located in Laverton, Melbourne, Victoria.
Snowy Hydro will seek planning approval for the project and will start the construction in the next three to four years. The construction time frame is hugely dependant on a number of factors, including the economic and commercial viability of the project at the time of construction.
