South Africa Aims to Expand Domestic Mining Market, an Industrial Info Market Brief

South Africa's Department of Mineral Resources is promoting mining investment, exploration and beneficiation to boost the country's flagging economy. According to its latest budget, South Africa picked up $3.1 billion of investment in the past year from participants such as Vedanta Resources Limited, Sasol Limited and Exxaro Resources Limited, creating an estimated 4,000 permanent jobs.

The ministry estimates $7.6 billion worth of projects, and a projected 32,000 jobs, is in the pipeline for 2018-2020, along with about 60 mineral-resource projects covering exploration, expansion, new mines and processing plants. The ministry also has set aside $1.38 billion to develop an integrated licensing system over the next two years.
