Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). China’s Minstry of Commerce announced that Doosan, South Korea's biggest manufacturer of power generators, received a contract from State Nuclear Power Technology Company of China (SNPTC), to provide key equipment to China's two nuclear power plants.

The equipment provided by Doosan includes two nuclear reactors and four steam generators. The two nuclear power plants will be located in Haiyang City in East China's Shandong Province, and Sanmen County, close to Shanghai and in East China's Zhejiang Province. SNPTC and Doosan also expected to discuss collaboration on another nuclear power project with a contract value of over $350 million.

On April 24 Doosan signed a contract with SNPTC and also signed a preliminary agreement with Westinghouse Electric Corporation. Westinghouse will be responsible for the design and construction of the two Chinese nuclear power plants.

According to the Doosan Group, China plans to build thirty one 1,000-megawatt nuclear power stations worth $50 billion by 2020. By winning this contract with SNPTC, Doosan has become the first Korean company to ever participate in the construction of a Chinese nuclear power plant.

Doosan is the only Korean firm specializing in power plants, and its businesses cover heavy industry, service industry and consumer goods with a focus on manufacturing power plant equipment and desalting equipment. Doosan has actively expanded its overseas businesses during recent years. It now has a representative office in Beijing and Shanghai. Last year Doosan managed to acquire Mitsui Babcock, a British energy service company, at a price around $160 million.
