Southwest Electric Power Design Institute Wins Contract for Two 1,000-Megawatt Units in Jiangsu Province

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Southwest Electric Power Design Institute (SWEPDI) (Chengdu, Sichuan), a regional subsidiary of China Power Engineering Consultancy Corporation (CPECC) (Beijing), won the bid for the survey, investigation and engineering of the 2,000-megawatt (MW) ultra-supercritical coal-fired project of the Zhenjiang Power Plant Phase IV Expansion Project, NWEPDI announced recently.

henjiang Power Plant is located in the city of Zhenjiang, the load center of eastern China's Jiangsu province. The power plant has a total planned capacity of 3,600 MW. So far, the power plant has four coal-fired units, each with capacities of 135 MW and two supercritical turbine-generating units in operation. The expansion project involves plans to build two 1,000-MW ultra-supercritical air-cooling units together with flue gas desulfurization and denitration devices. A preliminary feasibility study report of the project passed the examination of an expert panel in September 2006.

The project is to be built and invested by Jiangsu Guohua Gaozi Power Generation Company Limited (JGGPC) (Zhenjiang), a company jointly owned by Beijing Guohua Power Company Limited (Beijing), a subsidiary of China Shenhua Energy Group Corporation (Beijing); Jiangsu Kunlun Investment Company Limited (Nanjing); and Jiangsu Guoxin Investment Group Limited (Nanjing). Total investment of the project will be about $1.1 billion. According to the planning, the project will start construction in 2009 and begin operation in 2011.

JGGPC issued the invitation for bids regarding the survey, investigation and engineering, as well as related site and technical service for the preliminary design and construction-design stage of the project in September 2008. Through months of hard work, SWEPDI finally received the notice of award from the tendering center of JGGPC at the beginning of 2009.

According to the schedule, the construction-preparation period of the project will be four months, and the total construction period from beginning to end will be 26 months, and the date of commissioning for the second unit will be four months after the commissioning of the first unit.
