Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--As companies in the U.S. have begun to ramp up projects to alleviate the semiconductor shortage and boost onshore production, there are still semiconductor-hungry operations that will not be able to continue operations until the crisis is over.
As reported by MoparInsiders.com, Stellantis (NYSE:STLA) (Amsterdam, Netherlands) has decided to indefinitely idle its Belvidere, Illinois, assembly plant next February. This is mostly because the plant, which only manufactures the Jeep Cherokee (KL), was hardest hit by the global semiconductor shortage. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Industrial Manufacturing plant database can click here for the plant profile.
As the aforementioned projects to increase semiconductor production will take several years to provide chips to relieve the crisis, it remains to be seen if there will be other related plant closures in the interim.
Industrial Info is tracking 33 active semiconductor projects in the U.S., worth nearly $109 billion. Subscribers can click here for the project reports.
