Stellar Group Awarded General Contractor for Indiana Packers’ $43 Million Hog Slaughtering Plant Expansion

Indiana Packers Corporation (Delphi, Indiana), a joint venture between Mitsubishi Corporation (OTC:MSBHY) (Tokyo, Japan) and Itoham Foods, Incorporated (Hyogo, Japan), has awarded leading food plant engineers and constructors, The Stellar Group (Jacksonville, Florida), the general construction contract to expand its hog slaughtering operation in Delphi, Indiana.

In order to keep up with the demand for bacon and other pork products produced at the plant, additional slaughtering, processing and packing equipment will be installed and expand the plants 14,000-hog per day capacity by 15% and add up to 125 additional jobs to the existing workforce of 1,500.

Plans are to construct over 180,000 square feet of additional manufacturing and cold storage area. Building construction is scheduled to begin in about three weeks with construction wrapping up in about twelve months. The estimated cost for the expansion is approximately $43 million.

Founded in 1991, Indiana Packers produces more than 700 million pounds of pork products per year with annual sales of around $400 million. Packers supplies fresh and processed pork to domestic and international markets under the Indiana Kitchens brand.
