Steuben Foods Investing $18.7 Million to Expand Organic Milk Production in New York

Privately held dairy producer Steuben Foods, Incorporated (Jamaica, New York), is investing $18.7 million to expand organic milk production and storage capacity at their dairy processing operation located in Elma, New York. In order to keep up with demand for the company’s organic dairy products, Steuben will add 75,000 square feet of additional area for a new warehouse and state-of-the-art fluid milk processing plant at the company’s existing 230,000 square foot operation located at 1150 Maple Road in Elma.

Steuben Foods selected Savarino Construction Services Corporatiion (Williamsville, New York) as the general contractor for the project, and currently both projects are in the pre-construction phase, with actual building construction scheduled to begin within the next couple of weeks.

Plans are to have the warehouse addition completed by July of 2006, and the milk processing plant completed by September of 2006. The warehouse will store dry material and feedstock ingredients and the milk plant will be outfitted with pasteurization equipment and aseptic filling and packaging lines.

The company also received a $950,000 grant from the Empire State Development Corporation and will add 28 new jobs once the expansion becomes operational.

Steuben Foods is a contract manufacturer of antiseptic dairy products. Its range of products includes: organic milk, soymilk, soup broth, coffee concentrates and nutriceuticals. The facility has about 20 storage silos onsite that support fifteen production lines.
