Suwannee nears Completion of Grassroot Cement Plant in Florida

Suwannee American Cement Company (Branford, Fl.) is proceeding with construction of a $130 million grassroot cement plant in Branford, Florida. AMEC (Atlanta, Ga.), formerly Agra Simons, is almost complete with detailed engineering. Watkins Engineers and Constructors (Tallahassee, Fl.) is the general contractor for the project and cement specialist, Krupp Polysius Corporation (Atlanta, Ga.), is providing major equipment for the project. Commercial operation of the plant is expected to begin by early 2003.

Suwannee American Cement is a start up cement manufacturing firm headed by Joe Anderson Junior. Anderson Columbia Company Incorporated (Lake City, Fl.) is partial owner of the venture and is one of the leading building construction materials companies in the southeast.
