Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Engineering and consultancy services provider Sweco AB (Stockholm, Sweden) has secured owner's engineering contracts to manage and supervise the construction of two combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) thermal power plants in Moscow and Sochi in Russia. Sweco will function as the client's engineering arm and will provide technical solutions for the projects. The combined value of the contracts is estimated to be about 8 million euros ($11.7 million).
The CCGT power plant in Sochi will produce more than 360 megawatts (MW) of electric power and 360 MW of district heat. Scheduled for commissioning in August 2012, the facility is being developed as part of preparation activities for the Winter Olympic Games, which will be conducted in Sochi in 2014.
The infrastructure development plans for the event include the construction and upgrade of four thermal power plants and four cascaded hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 1,129 MW at a combined investment of $3.2 billion. These include augmentation of the 78-MW Sochi thermal power plant; reconstruction of the Krasnopolyanskaya hydropower plant; development of the 360-MW Adlerskaya and 450-MW Krasnodarskaya combined heat and power facilities; development of a 150-MW power complex, comprising four hydropower plants on the Mzymta River; and development of CCGT power plants near Novorossiysk and Tuapse. Power generation projects are estimated to cost $1.3 billion, while investments in power distribution and transmission infrastructure will amount to about $1.9 billion.
The CCGT facility in Moscow will have the capacity to produce 220 MW of electric power and 300 MW of district heat. The project is scheduled for commissioning in 2013.
