Synenco Energy Awards Engineering Contracts for Northern Lights Oil Sands Project

Synenco Energy Incorporated (TSX:SYN) (Calgary, Alberta), the managing partner in the Northern Lights Project has signed contracts regarding engineering services for its planned oil sands mine and bitumen upgrader in Alberta. Synenco awarded Jacobs Canada Incorporated (Calgary, Alberta) a contract to provide Owners engineering services for the Northern Lights Project. The contract will span the projects full development cycle. Jacobs Canada will provide support services to Synenco Energy in the areas of scheduling, estimating, procurement and construction management.
Synenco Energy also awarded UMA Engineering Limited (Vancouver, British Columbia) a contract to provide Owners engineering services in regards to project infrastructure including roads, non-process buildings, and plant site development. In addition, UMA Engineering was also awarded a contract to complete the infrastructure design basis memorandum (DBM) which includes the overall diagrams and plans related to infrastructure aspects of the project.
Finally, Synenco Energy awarded the consortium of UMA Engineering & Black & Veatch Corporation (Overland Park, Kansas) the utilities & offsites DBM contract, which includes power generation, water and pipelines.
The Northern Lights project is envisioned as an intergraded oil sands mining and bitumen upgrading project that will produce 100,000 barrel per day of light sweet synthetic crude oil by late 2012. The proposed Northern Lights project will be constructed in two phases with the first phase carrying a price tag of approximately $4.5 billion dollars for the mining, bitumen production and bitumen upgrading aspects. The mining operation will be located approximately 125 kilometers north of Fort McMurray, Alberta and the bitumen upgrader will be located in Sturgeon County approximately 40 kilometers northeast of Edmonton, Alberta.
