Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Renewable Energy Resources (USA) Incorporated (RES America) (Austin, Texas), a subsidiary of Renewable Energy Systems Limited (RES) (Kings Langley, Hertfordshire, England), is building a 59.4-megawatt (MW) windfarm for publicly-owned utility, Nebraska Pubic Power District (NPPD) (Columbus, Nebraska) in north central Nebraska. The Ainsworth Windfarm is located on 11,000 acres, six miles south of Ainsworth in Brown County, Nebraska, off of Highway 7. The windfarm will actually only utilize about 50 acres for the turbines, roads, and substation.
NPPD expects to sell 32 MW of power to its wholesale customers and to retail communities. The balance of the power will go to other utilities, including an out-of-state municipality utility, JEA (Jacksonville, Florida). NPPD has enough space that it could expand the windfarm, should it acquire additional customers wanting renewable energy.
