Texas-Size Growth in the Lone Star State for Food & Beverage Industry

Bexar, Galveston, Harris, Anderson and Tarrant counties continue to dominate food and beverage related projects, with almost $1.5 billion in capital and maintenance expenditures currently reported. The cities of San Antonio, Palestine, Fort Worth and Houston and their surrounding areas are among the hottest spots, with large capital activity of more than $700 million.
Across the Lone Star state, plans are underway to build 15 new processing plants and distribution centers. Grassroot construction activity accounts for $1.2 billion, or 67%, of all current project spending.
Two of the largest active projects in San Antonio area include a $325 million grassroot soup plant in the construction phase and an $8 million beef plant expansion in the planning phase. The city of Palestine has been a hot spot for capital activity, with a total of $92 million food and beverage related projects. Among those projects reported, poultry processing dominates capital expenditures.
Fort Worth continues to be strong, with capital activity of more than $80 million in food and beverage-related activity. Two of the largest active projects in Fort Worth include a $41 million beverage production and distribution facility, which is in the construction phase, and a $30 million grassroot beverage distribution center in the planning phase.
Houston and its surrounding area have a total of $300 million in current food and beverage related projects. In addition to the projects in San Antonio, Palestine, Fort Worth and Houston, there are millions of dollars worth of food and beverage-related capital projects in the Panhandle and West Texas areas.
Texas continues to be business friendly as it remains one of the strongest growing states in the country. Food & Beverage is no exception to the trend of consistent capital growth and maintenance expenditures.
